Radiology (scans)
We provide a range of Radiology Services including X-ray, CT, MRI and Ultrasound scans. Our Image Guided Surgery Hub (IGIS) is also in this service.
Our Radiology staff use state of the art imaging equipment and the latest imaging techniques to support our clinical teams in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of medical problems.
Thanks to large-scale investments in Imaging equipment across the county, we have a modern fleet of advanced scanners, allowing us to deliver high-quality imaging at lower doses to patients.

Locations
At Gloucestershire Royal Hospital
The Imaging department at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital is on the ground floor between the Tower block and the Outpatients Department. It comprises of the following:
- Imaging 1 which contains:
- 4 CT scanners (one of which is based in the emergency department)
- Two MRI scanners, one in the department and one in a satellite unit at London Road entrance (please report to Imaging 1 reception and the team will guide you there)
- Two General X-ray Rooms
- 3 Ultrasound Rooms
- 1 Fluoroscopy unit
- Imaging 1 also contains the Image Guided Surgery Hub (IGIS) which is a unit that has two services working alongside each other to provide interventions to patients in a time-critical manner, in both the planned and emergency settings. It is comprised of 3 Cardiac Catheter labs, run by Cardiology and 2 Interventional Radiology Suites. - Day case patients are served across the department from our Cardiac and Interventional Radiology Day Case Unit, which can be found opposite the Tower Block lifts. For Radiology Day case patients, please report to Imaging 1 reception, where the team will attend you for your procedure and the nursing team will collect you.
- Imaging 2 which serves the emergency department and is where inpatient Xrays are undertaken, and contains:
- 3 General X-ray rooms
- Dental X-ray facilities
At Cheltenham General Hospital
The Radiology department at Cheltenham General is located within College Road wing, housed over two floors. Radiology 1 is located on the ground floor, opposite to the Emergency department, and Radiology 2 is directly above, opposite Paediatric Outpatients and Lung Function.
- Radiology 1 contains:
- 4 X-ray rooms
- 1 Dental X-ray room, which contains our Cone Beam CT Dental service
- 2 MRI scanners
- Radiology 2 contains:
- 3 CT scanners
- 5 Ultrasound Rooms
- Nuclear Medicine
- Bone Density Measurements (DEXA Scanning)
- Nuclear Medicine (including PET Scanning)
- Staff accommodations and administrative offices
- Radiology 2 also contains Interventional Radiology, making Cheltenham our Image Guided Surgery (IGIS) spoke unit. Patients are cared for in a dedicated day case unit. If you are attending for a procedure, please report to Radiology 2 reception where the team will attend you for your procedure, and the nursing team will collect you.
At the Community Diagnostic Centre (Quayside)

- 1 General X-ray room
- 1 Bone Density Measurement room (DEXA Scanning)
- 3 Ultrasound rooms.
In addition to this, there is a modular unit provided in partnership with Cobalt, which houses:
- 1 CT scanner
- 1 MRI Scanner
