- This test is used for patients with symptoms suggestive of gastric/duodenal ulcer
- Endoscopy may be appropriate when results are positive
- All patients over 50 yrs who present with new symptoms of dyspepsia should be referred for endoscopy - antibody results should not be used to determine clinical management
- This test detects past or current infection
- It cannot be used to diagnose active infection
- It cannot be used as a test of cure
