The NHS Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) national screening programme aims to reduce deaths from ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms through early detection, monitoring and treatment.
An abdominal aortic aneurysm is a weakening of the main blood vessel in the body, the aorta. It causes a widening of the aorta, and forms what is called an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA).
This condition is most common in men aged 65 and above. It is estimated that 1 in 80 men aged between 65 and 74 in England have an AAA. Read more about AAA
