Gloucestershire Hospitals Launches New Website Section for SACT Patients

27 Aug 2024, 7:48 p.m.

We are proud to announce the launch of a new, dedicated website section designed specifically for patients undergoing Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT), commonly known as chemotherapy.

This comprehensive online resource aims to provide patients and their families with accessible, up-to-date information about their treatment journey, side effect management, and post-treatment support.

The new section of the website addresses several key areas to support patients receiving SACT:

  1. Treatment Locations and what to expect: Patients can easily find information about where they will be receiving their treatment, along with guidance on what to expect during their visits.
  2. Side Effect Symptom Checker: Understanding the side effects of chemotherapy can be challenging for patients and their families. The new symptom checker tool offers a straightforward way to identify and understand potential side effects, alongside clear advice on when to seek medical support. This feature is crucial in helping patients manage their symptoms effectively and know when it’s important to contact healthcare professionals for assistance.
  3. Post-Treatment Support: Recognising that care extends beyond the treatment period, the website also provides resources on post-treatment support, including dietary advice, mental health resources, and information on local support groups. This holistic approach ensures patients have access to the support they need as they transition out of active treatment.

“We are committed to providing our patients with the highest standard of care, both within our hospitals and online,” said Alison Lovett-Turner, Oncology Practice Development Nurse at Cheltenham General Hospital. “Undergoing SACT can be a daunting experience, and having reliable, easy-to-understand information at their fingertips can make a significant difference."

The development of this new website section reflects Gloucestershire Hospitals' ongoing dedication to enhancing patient care through digital innovation. By offering information in an accessible format, we aim to alleviate some of the stress and uncertainty that often accompanies a cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Patients and their families are encouraged to explore the new SACT website section at https://www.gloshospitals.nhs.uk/sact

A printed version of the information will be completed shortly for patients who are unable to access digital information or prefer to use a physical document.

"We want our patients to feel empowered and supported at every step of their journey, and this new website section is a vital part of that mission.”
